The much-anticipated fashion event of the year, BIFF & BIL 2010, was held last week in Bangkok. Thanks to D and the company he's working for, who was hired to do the marketing and PR for the trade fair, I became part of the group of writers that covered the event. It was my first time to attend BIFF & BIL, and I was fortunate enough to have been assigned to cover the 48 rounds of fashion shows that were held during the 4-day event.
The job couldn't have been more perfect. All I needed to do was to watch all the fashion shows and write about the collections that were showcased in the shows, the designers who participated, and how all this makes BIFF & BIL the most fabulous fashion extravaganza in Asia.
Being able to talk to talented designers and ask them questions about their inspirations, design styles, and what brought them to the trade was nothing short of amazing. Equally fascinating are the creations themselves, which were a clear indication of the designers' creative expression and utter genius. It also doesn't hurt to have an all access pass to all the shows and seminars. It was truly a visual feast that did not only appeal to the senses but also stimulated the mind, consequently inspiring me to strive to express, in one way or another, my own creativity.
I didn't take pictures or at least it didn't occur to me to do so. I think I was too excited to see the shows that I couldn't be bothered to take photos. But somehow I wish I had so then I can show you the beautiful collections of Thai brands such as Kai, Olanor, Aunchalee, Pyndela and Amata or show you the unique creations of Indonesian designers like Handy Hartono and Oki Wong, Singaporean designer Vivienne Lin, Philippine wrap artiste Dita Sandico-Ong, and Japanese designer Tamaki Niime.
Despite having to work grueling 12-14 hour days, running around in between shows, attending seminars and interviewing exhibitors, designers and trade visitors, it was all worth it. Hella tiring but lotsa fun. I would do it again in a heartbeat.
the secret is out.
