I woke up today and missed Saturday mornings back home when my Dad would put on his Hard Day's Night album of the Beatles and play it full blast to wake us all up.
My Dad is a die-hard Beatles fan. He would always brag how he was one of the cool kids in school who first heard of the band, thanks to his sister who was a radio DJ back in the day. In fact, he was the first in his school to have a Beatles notebook binder, a freebie that he got from his other sister who worked for a record company. The other kids in school asked him who were these four boys in his binder and he introduced them to what would later be known as Beatlemania. What's more is that at one point, he actually came together with some other dads in the neighborhood and put up a band that only played Beatles songs. My brothers and I often watched him jam with his buddies in our garage. Looking back now, I realize that that's one of the happiest memories I have of my father.
I grew up with the Beatles playing constantly on road trips, BBQ parties, or even just regular Saturday or Sunday mornings when my Dad would go into the garage and tinker with his car for hours on end. And because of this, it's no surprise that I too fell in love with the four boys from Liverpool. My personal favorites are From Me To You (1963), I Want To Hold Your Hand (1963), I'm Looking Through You (Rubber Soul, 1965), The Night Before (Help!, 1965), Hello Goodbye (1967), Penny Lane (1967), Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds (Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, 1967), and pretty much everything on the Help! and Hard Day's Night albums.
Today, I played another one of my favorites and it put me in such a good mood despite the fact I woke up with a massive hangover from last night's drink binge. Here's hoping this puts you in a good mood too. Enjoy!
the secret is out.
